You have probably solved this by now but I just got the same model new switch on instructions as follows press and HOLD the POWER button for 3 seconds to switch the unit on once temperature has been reached, press and HOLD the steam button on top of the iron for up to 20 seconds this will prime the steam pump and only has to be done once for each ironing session the pump noise will stop once it has been primed with water hope this helps if still needed if you need the user guide, let me know, I'll scan it for you Wendy Jun 29, 2009.
